WHAT IS A CONE RACE??
A (traffic) cone race affects restarts.
When the cars get ready to line up to restart the race after a caution,
we put an orange traffic cone down between the 2 lanes on the track
(on the backstretch.)
As cars approach the cone, they have a choice: Inside or Outside lane.
You will see them drive to the left or right of the cone as they make their choices.
For example:
Let's say the first car picks the inside lane, the second car picks the inside lane
and the third car wants the inside lane.
Now...
The next car (restarting 4th) has to choose if he/she will also pick inside and start 7th OR pick the outside lane and restart 2nd!
Once all cars have chosen a lane and the rest of the positions are filled in, the cone is taken off the track and the GREEN FLAG comes out.
It really jumbles up the field. Who will go where? Find out Saturday during all 6 races!
